PRAXIS LIFE: After a decade of frontline organizing in solidarity with Indigenous land defenders and water protectors --- against tar sands extraction and pipelines, nuclear reactors and waste disposal sites, gold and copper mines, ancient forest logging, GMO agriculture, and fish farms --- Praxis Life hunkered down at the end of road within the ancient rainforest beside the ocean to complete an album. Living in Tofino within unceded Tla-o-qui-aht Territory on the west side of Vancouver Island, frontlines solidarity remains a big part of Praxis Life. And the music is integral to his revolutionary life.
The upcoming album --- Mirror Mask --- was inspired by visits learning from the Zapatistas in Chiapas, particularly the Zapatista concept of the mask being a mirror. The album is like a revolutionary playbook based on experience, set to a banging soundtrack. A collection of incredible musicians have contributed to Mirror Mask including beatmakers Cee Reality of Test Their Logic, Hattie, and Blaise, with additional instrumentation from Rhett Reilkoff (synth, guitar & bass), Ash Lamothe (guitar & bass), Enver Hampton (bass), & Chaps (cuts). There's some dope features too that will we revealed soon. Artistically, Praxis Life represents the yang --- woke, heavy, and intense. The vibes mash up conscious rhymes with punk soul over funky, industrial beats. Meanwhile, the yin side continues to be expressed with Parab Poet and the Hip Hop Hippies, a festival styled collective that Praxis Life remains active with in hometown Saskatoon, Treaty 6 Cree Territory. An unconventional combination of percussive drumming meets hip hop, jazz meets marching band, classical meets folk. Their debut album dropped in late 2016, available @ http://www.pphhh.ca/ As a performer Praxis Life has shared stage with many artists that continue to inspire his music: Talib Kweli, D.O.A., Zion I, Micahel Franti & Spearhead, Caleb Hart & the Royal Youths, Nomadic Massive, Abstract Rude, Erica Dee, Def 3, and The Gaff. Once the new album drops it'll be time to tour! Now is the time to make revolution our art.... Stay Woke, Stay Active.. |
RHYMETHiNK is a radical Hip-Hop music collective, working on the stolen lands of occupied Turtle Island. Founded in 2013 by anarchist rap artists TEST THEIR LOGIK and LEE REED, the RHYMETHiNK mission is to create and disseminate expressly revolutionary Hip-Hop: to soundtrack & support the frontline efforts of freedom fighters and social movements; to popularize anti-colonial, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist and anti-authoritarian politics in Hip-Hop; to wield words as weapons in the fight for social & environmental justice; and to fly a phat musical middle finger at all would-be masters, and the thugs & sycophants that serve them // [email protected] |
